CLGF

Commonwealth Local Government Forum
The Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) is a focus for action on local democracy in the Commonwealth.  CLGF works to promote and strengthen democratic local government across the Commonwealth, and to encourage the exchange of best practice.  CLGF is a partner of ComHabitat.

Commonwealth

The Commonwealth is an association of 53 countries.  Its 1.8 billion citizens, about 30 per cent of the world's population are drawn from the broadest range of faiths, races, cultures and traditions.

Commonwealth Foundation

The Commonwealth Foundation is an intergovernmental organisation with a mandate to strengthen civil society in the achievement of Commonwealth priorities, particularly those related to democracy and good governance, respect for human rights and gender equality, poverty eradication and sustainable, people-centred development, and to promote arts and culture.  The Commonwealth Foundation is a ComHabitat partner.

Commonwealth Secretariat

The Commonwealth Secretariat is the main intergovernmental agency of the Commonwealth.  It facilitates consultation and co-operation among member governments and countries.  It is a ComHabitat partner.

DFID

Department for International Development

The Department for International Development (DFID) is the part of the UK Government that manages Britain's aid to poor countries and works to get rid of extreme poverty.  DFID is a ComHabitat partner.

Habitat Agenda

The Habitat Agenda is the main document that came out of the United Nations' 1996 Conference on Human Settlements in Istanbul.  It focuses on adequate shelter for all and sustainable human settlements in an urbanising world.  All members of the Commonwealth have adopted the Habitat Agenda.

MDGs

Millennium Development Goals
In September 2000, the United Nations unanimously adopted the Millennium Declaration.  The eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) have been recognised by the United Nations General Assembly as part of the 'road map' for implementing the Millennium Declaration.

In September 2000, the United Nations unanimously adopted the Millennium Declaration in which heads of Government committed to "spare no effort to free our fellow men, women and children from the abject and dehumanizing conditions of extreme poverty".

UN Commission on Sustainable Development

The United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) was established by the UN General Assembly in December 1992 to ensure effective follow-up of United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, also known as the Rio Earth Summit.
